Our courses are based on the curriculum established by the US SAILING ASSOCIATION, the leading national sailing certification organization. These courses will allow you to become an active member of our CLUB and become eligible to book our yachts at any of our available sailing destinations. 




 "LEARN TO SAIL" 3-day course

This Learn to Sail course is taught on 26′ cruising monohulls WAHINE LIFESTYLE keelboats with inboard engines that are high performance, very safe, fast, and won’t tip over. This course is offered to members at a discounted rate of $350

 "BASIC CRUISING" 2-day course

Taught on 26′ cruising monohulls WAHINE LIFESTYLE. Learn all the principles of cruising and master the techniques and skills you will need to successfully sail away. This course is offered to members at a discounted rate of $750

 "BAREBOAT CRUISING" 3-day Liveaboard course

You by now know how to Sail, but this course will enable you to become the captain of your yacht. This is the ultimate ready-to-cruise course taught on 26′ cruising monohulls WAHINE LIFESTYLE. The Bareboat Cruising enables you to book and set sail by-your-own using Club yachts. This course is offered to members at a discounted rate of $750

All three courses are required to book the Club yachts and are earned at your own pace. In the case that the member already has the experience, a sailing check-out will be performed to review his/her sailing skills and confidence and asses wich course might be required. 

However, no matter the level of experience a NEW member may bring into the CLUB, unless he/she can show proof of having credited the ASA 104 BAREBOAT CRUISING certification and based on pre-qualification, there is a $75 fee for a “check-out” with a Wahine Sail Club sailing instructor to evaluate skills. if the WAHINE SAIL CLUB determines that sail training is required, WAHINE SAIL CLUB will provide sail training in accordance with the discounted rates offered to members

Class size


Our low student to teacher ratio (4 to 1) ensures that you get just the right amount of hands-on experience. Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising & Bareboat Cruising classes have a maximum of four students and one instructor per boat. While there will sometimes be less, there will never be more.



Our Club is located in the heart of Silicon Valey, in Redwood City, directly across the San Mateo Bridge, in the Blu Harbor Marina. Our location is unique as it allows you to be sailing in minutes in a world’s premier sailing destination


Knowing how to sail is one thing, but knowing how to teach sailing is another. Our instructors are among the best qualified and most prepared teachers in the industry. We have instructors and trainers that not only teach to our Club members in the comfort of our private Club, they also teach al the largest and most demanding schools in the country.  


Your fast track to success



​No experience is necessary, After successfully completing our intensive 3-day course, you will have a test and earn your LEARN TO SAIL level.  This course will provide you with a solid foundation, teaching you the essential skills you’ll need to command a boat up to a 30ft on your own. 


This course is designed to accommodate a wide range of experience levels. providing plenty of repetition and on-water sailing time to ensure great results. This course provides 24 hours of instruction over three consecutive days taught onboard of a Wahine Lifestyle. Each day consists of a dynamic two-hour lecture during the morning, a quick lunch break, followed by at least 5 hours of hands-on sailing!

With an emphasis on practical training and experience learning, you will learn about preparation, nomenclature, wind orientation, sail theory, primary sailing maneuvers, sail trim, crew positions & responsibilities, basic mooring/docking techniques, anchoring, local knowledge of our sailing grounds, and much more.

For graduates of the LEARN TO SAIL course or for those that have some sailing experience and are willing to test into this course. Basic Cruising is a 3-day course that starts with a 101 refresher taught, then move on to developing the skills for independent and short-range cruising. 


You will be able to skipper a sloop-rigged powered inboard engine keelboat by day in moderate winds (up to 20 knots) and sea conditions, terminology, systems, engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather interpretation, safety, and seamanship.

Like our 101 course, this course is taught aboard a Wahine Lifestyle. The entire sailboat will be your floating classroom. We will start with a two-hour lecture taught in the cabin of our cruising boat, followed by a quick lunch break, and then at least five hours of practical boating/sailing. We limit the classes to four students and one instructor per boat. 



Member $750-



Bareboat Cruising is a 3 days live-aboard course intended for those members with Basic Cruising skills. We teach this course aboard 26' yachts fully-equipped for bareboat charters. Bareboat Cruising is mandatory for Club members and is designed for sailors looking to develop skills on bareboat charters. You'll learn all the skills you need for chartering these yachts on the San Francisco Bay as well as at any of WAHINE's sailing locations.

We limit the classes to three students and one instructor per boat. The curriculum consists of 39 hours of instruction. The course includes two overnight stays at an anchorage inside the Bay.

Successful completion prepares you to Charter Club yachts with confidence and security inside and outside the Bay.
